Answering Fishing Vacation Emails: A Case Example from Five Lakes Lodge

Looking for this post. It is now over at PennsOutdoors.com.

Fishing Traveler

Fishing Traveler is coming to an end as a blog. We’ll keep it up for awhile as it still has some useful information in the resources pages. The reason we’re bringing it to an end is because it was way too ambitious of a project to try to cover fishing trips across the United States, Canada and Mexico. I will continue to blog about my fishing trips but at a new site, Penn’s Outdoors. The site will cover fishing and hunting in Pennsylvania, my home State, as well as fishing travel. I am looking forward to the new endeavor. I appreciate everyone’s support for this site.

If you are looking for the Lost Lake Wilderness Lodge fishing trip report, we have it at Penn’s Outdoors.

Let the Controversy Start - World Record Smallmouth Bass Claim

Every so often, there is a story about a new world record fish.  This one comes from one of my favorite places in the world, Ontario, Canada.  Steven Grail claims to have caught a 12lb. 4 oz. smallmouth bass on the upper Madawaska River.  This beats the current 10lb. 14 oz. record, pictured below, caught in Tennessee in 1969.  Oh yeah, what did he do with the potentially world record bass?  He ate it.  Yep, you read that right.  He ate it.  Here’s a link to the story from the Ottawa Citizen

I’m no expert at guessing weights of fish, and his smallmouth sure looks like a nice fish.  But, I don’t think it is a 12lb. fish.  He states that the fish was 22 inches long with a 24 inch girth.  I’ll let you be the judge but I just don’t think so.  Did I mention that he ate it?

Lake Kesagami Ice Fishing Video

Ok, I realize that this post doesn’t match the current season.  But this is a really cool video that I couldn’t wait until next year to share.  There is a guy that goes by the name of Moosebunk that posts wonderful fishing trip stories on various Canadian message boards.  He takes an ice fishing trip to Lake Kesagami in Northern Ontario.  He is the guy assisting in this catch of this huge northern pike.  Warning, there is some language at the end of this video that is not appropriate for young ears.

Not everyone thinks to head to Delaware for a fishing trip but there are some waters that shouldn’t be overlooked.  Lums Pond, which was built by the Army Corps of Engineers to hold water for the locks of the original C&D Canal, is one such body of water.  Lums Pond is the largest freshwater pond in Delaware and sits in Lums Pond State Park. Lums Pond is a small 200 acres and offers a sandy beach for sunbathing but swimming is not allowed.  Boat rentals, boat launching ramp and two piers are available at the state park.  This lake does receive its share of pressure from recreational and tournament fishermen, especially in the summer. Lake Casitas, California Fishing Trip Information

I have created this fishing trip information post on Lake Casitas in California to assist you in searching for fishing trip information.  Please visit the links on this page to get complete information for your trip.

You should think about one thing when you think about a fishing trip to California lakes like Lake Casitas, Big Big Bass. Lake Casitas has produced some of the heaviest bass ever caught.  It also makes most experts’ list for potential world record holding lakes. Double digit bass are not unusual.  Lake Casitas is formed by Casitas Dam, which is a feature of the Ventura Project. During the winter months the lake is stocked with trout which helps feed the huge bass as well as provide additional angling opportunities for your fishing trip.  The lake has 2500 surface acres of very clear water and over 30 miles of fishable shoreline.  My understanding is that there is no water skiing or jet skiing on the lake.  The lake is just 78 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
